Local search, technical SEO and website builds for businesses in Nuneaton and around Warwickshire.
I live in Nuneaton and have worked freelance from here since November 2017, building websites and fixing search visibility for businesses across Warwickshire. For most firms in a town this size the work splits two ways: getting your Google Business Profile and contact details right so you appear in the map results, then giving your website enough real pages to rank for the services you actually sell.
Search "electrician nuneaton" on your phone and you get two different result sets on one screen. A block of three listings with a map, star ratings and call buttons sits at the top: that is the map pack, drawn from Google Business Profiles rather than websites. Underneath sit the ordinary blue links, drawn from web pages.
For plumbers, garages, electricians, removals firms and most other local trades, the map pack is where the calls come from. Someone standing in a flooded kitchen taps the first call button they see; they are not reading 1,200 words about pipework. That should decide where your first month of effort goes.
There is a wrinkle in a town laid out like ours. Google weights how close you are to whoever is searching, and for local queries that proximity signal is strong. A unit in Attleborough can top the map pack for someone searching from Attleborough and be invisible to someone in Galley Common. You cannot edit your postcode, so the practical answer is to earn organic rankings too, because the blue links are far less tied to where the searcher is standing.
Your primary category is not a label, it is closer to the shortlist of searches Google will even consider showing you for. A body shop filed under "Car repair shop" competes in a different pool from one filed under "Auto body shop", and the second pool holds the accident repair queries. Set the primary to what you most want the phone to ring about, then fill everything else: services with descriptions, hours including bank holidays, the exact business name with no keywords bolted on, real photos. Every blank field is a surface Google cannot match a query against.
Recency does more than people expect. A profile with 40 reviews where the newest is two years old reads like a business that may have closed. One with 18 reviews, three of them from the last fortnight, reads like somewhere trading right now. Reviews also carry text, and that text tends to contain the service words and place names your own site never says out loud. Ask on the day the job finishes, by text. Never buy them.
Google is trying to satisfy itself that you are one real business at one real place, and it does that by cross referencing your site against Yell, Facebook, Checkatrade, old directory entries and your own profile. If the number is written three ways, or a unit number from before you moved is still live somewhere, confidence drops and so does your position. Pick one exact format and make every listing match it character for character. More detail in the local SEO foundations guide for trades and service businesses.
Google ranks pages, not businesses. A page gets one title, one main heading and one clear subject, then competes query by query. A homepage giving eight services a sentence each is trying to be the best answer to eight questions at once, so it is the best answer to none. It loses to the competitor who wrote 600 focused words on that one service with prices, timescales and photos. The fix is boring and it works: one page per service you want more of, each with its own title and its own shot at ranking. A page for a place you genuinely serve is fair too, but write it properly. Eight identical pages with the town name swapped is the oldest trick in local SEO.
tel: link, that is costing you calls today.<title> tag, repeat on three pages. Identical titles mean your pages are competing with each other.site:yourdomain.co.uk. If you have fourteen pages and five come back, the rest are not ranking because they are not indexed, which is a different problem and comes first.Check Bing too, since it feeds several AI assistants and is often months behind on small business sites. I wrote up the Bing, AI and IndexNow checks worth running on a small site after finding client pages live in Google and absent from Bing entirely.
This is the honest advantage of hiring someone who lives a few minutes from your unit. I can stand in your workshop, watch a job, photograph the work properly and sit half an hour with whoever answers the phone. That half hour produces the specifics that make a service page rank: what you charge for, what you refuse, how long a job runs, the questions customers ask weekly. A remote agency guesses at that, or sends a content questionnaire nobody fills in. Meeting in town or at your premises is normal here, not a favour.
For the method rather than the location, my SEO services page explains the process end to end. Trading into the city, read how I approach the tougher Coventry market and AI citations. Weighing me against a larger firm, the Birmingham page sets out where a big agency beats a freelancer and where it does not.
Yes, all three, plus the villages between and the rest of Warwickshire. Bedworth and Hinckley are close enough that I treat them like Nuneaton for meeting up.
Yes, and I would rather we did at least once at the start. Your premises is best because I can see the work, but a coffee in town is fine. After that most projects run on email and calls.
Often just SEO. If your site loads decently on a phone, lets you add pages, and you can still get into it, fixing and extending it is the sensible move. A rebuild makes sense when the site cannot take new pages or nobody has the login any more. I build in PHP and MySQL on a custom MVC, so if that is the answer I am the one doing it.
Profile work can shift the map pack within weeks, sometimes days, because you are correcting data rather than earning authority. Service pages are slower: three months before the shape is clear, six before it settles. Anyone promising page one in thirty days is describing a search nobody performs.
Much of my work is trades and service businesses, because that is what these towns are full of. Recent examples include a vehicle body shop rebuilt on a custom CMS, and Express Removals, where I built a booking and quote system that generates real time quotes and captures the lead while the customer is still interested.
We check whether it hit the whole site or specific pages, whether the map pack or only the organic results moved, and what changed on your end that week. Most post-update panic turns out to be normal movement. My notes on what to watch are in the May 2026 core update breakdown, and I track it in Search Console and Ahrefs so you are not the last to know.
If you run a business in or near Nuneaton and are not sure whether the problem is the profile, the website or both, send me the domain and I will tell you which. If the answer is "do these three things yourself and call me in six months", I will say that. Send me a message below and we can arrange a call or a coffee locally. A Google Business Profile and local SEO setup is £245 one-off for one location, and the other standard prices are on my work with me page.
